Zavito is a secret gem, tucked away in suburban Mairangi Bay. Mairangi Bay is a residential seaside suburb with a distinct village-like character on Auckland’s North Shore but within easy commuting distance of Auckland City.

Zavito Restaurant & Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal at a modest price. The atmosphere is excellent with a smart but casual service.

We have continued Zavito’s legacy as having the finest wood fired pizzas on the shore, with our home and handmade dough bases. Our strengths are also in our steaks, with the Kikorangi blue cheese sauce being a crowd favourite. The stuffed Chicken Camembert with plum glaze is another dish which is also a hit with the customers.

We’re a fully licensed restaurant, with a small team of front of house and kitchen staff. We’re Located at 404 beach road by the roundabout, just across the road from Paper Moon.

With Summer just around the corner, We’ve opened our doors to feed the hungry packs coming up from their daily swim at the beach. Enjoy some tasty Beer battered fish and chips, from 11.30am – 2.30pm every day, and in the weekends, grab a slice of our ‘world famous on the shore’ pizza! Our close proximity to the water adds to the relaxed and friendly vibe which is complimented by our recent paint-job, inspired by the golden sands of the east coast bays.

We now take bookings for all group sizes, so whether you’re a small family of four, or a full sized rugby team, we’ll save a spot for you! Make sure you get in quick so you don’t spend your night searching for a decent feed.

The food at Zavito is pretty good and the waitress that took our order was very pleasant although it seemed she was new to the job and still learning the menu and wine list. However, the waitress that initially sat us was another story. After been sat at a table we were then moved a few minutes later to another table. I don’t mind, mistakes happen with seat bookings. However, once we were moved our menus were left at the table we were first sat at. They were swiftly removed from that table. After a few minutes I waved to the waitress that sat us to bring us menus. That’s when it turned unpleasant. With a scowl on her face she bought menus to us then proceeded to ask me not once but twice what I had done with the menus. We then had to witness her then point us out to the other wait staff with a look on her face like we were trouble. Now, I’m not a fussy diner and Zavito is casual dining but I assumed that it’s etiquette for a waitress to make sure you have menus if you re-seat diners, least of all accuse those diners of misplacing the menus.

We were going off some old reviews and thought it was a great place. Maybe in the evening but certainly not during lunch. The lunch menu is very very limited and they don’t offer the pizzas. I had the steak and Im sure my shoe would have been more tender :( Waitress is very lovely but that’s the only plus

Myself and four friends went to Zavito last Thursday night. It certainly was busy with all tables occupied, however I had no problems hearing everyone at the table. The noise level people mentioned in previous reviews certainly wasn’t a problem for us.

The happy and friendly waitress came and took our order promptly and everyone at the table was happy with all the meals. I was a little surprised that my greek salad had so much dressing on it (not traditional) however I couldn’t complain with the price or the taste o my salad. The portions were good and the service couldn’t really be faulted.

It was a little hard to get the waitresses attention to re order drinks mid meal, but couldn’t really fault anything. Will def return.

The steaks here are great, but the atmosphere is spoilt by trying to cram in too many tables. The restaurant has low ceilings and is NOISY! Would be so much more enjoyable if they removed a few tables, gave diners a little more space and added a few soft furnishings or ceiling panels to absorb the noise. Portions seem a little smaller than before too.

This was always our favourite place until we moved North , however being back in Auckland last Sunday we decided to make a visit for dinner. Yes, I have to admit to being surprised to see the change of ownership and really didn’t know what to expect but we stayed anyway. Much to our delight, the food was as good as ever, the prices still very reasonable and the staff were all very friendly. And you can still get a decent size glass of Chardy for $8. We will definitely be back again!!!

lovely restaurant, went there with a friend for brunch on the weekend. Nice big portions with the most friendliest of staff, top of the range service and also the amazing taste! Prices were reasonable. I love the sense of relaxing atmosphere when dining there. Will certainly be back to try out the pizzas.

Went to Zavito last week and was greeted by this lovely American waitress, she was very friendly and provided us with excellent service, however I noticed a bit of a change and asked her where Gavin or Grant was, to then find out that the business had been sold. Unfortunately the atmosphere has changed a lot, the new owner is nice but doesn’t quite fit into the Zavito atmosphere, and unfortunately the new manager of Zavito comes off as looking very rough and unapproachable. The food was good but I have noticed that the portions have became smaller as well as the quality, it would be a shame to see Zavito go downhill, but I have noticed some changes, it’s not quite the same anymore

I just moved to Mairangi Bay last month. My friend said to me Zavito is a famous restaurant on the North Shore. So we had dinner yesterday. I was impressed as had seen it before but never been in. Great food, good price and fantastic friendly service. Excellent kids menu. My son was very happy.

Four of us ate here last week after reading all the good reviews and we were not disappointed! Everything was fresh and tasty and the service was friendly and attentive. The Texan Pizza I ordered was excellent, juicy and full of flavor! The mains were awesome and my friend said it was one of the best restaurants on the shore. I would definitely recommend Zavito and I will be back.

We dined at Zavitos a few weeks ago, and was sad that Gavin was no longer there. The atmosphere has always been so welcoming. The lady that greeted us was chewing gum and looked extremely uninterested in seating us. She looked as though she may have been the new owner – but couldn’t be sure. She really brought down our experience with the lack of enthusiasm and I don’t think she smiled at us once. The food was still okay, so really hope that Zavito’s food remains as good as it was with Gavin in charge.

We have often bought the takeaway gourmet pizzas prior to this restaurant changing hands. Bought 3 pizzas tonight and none of them were anywhere near as good; the crusts were burnt, the bases were hard so that you couldn’t actually cut through them easily and the flavours weren’t as tasty. The lamb on the Istanbul pizza was tough and we thought the pizzas looked smaller. We will not be buying them again at almost $22 each. We were happy to pay this amount prior as they were just SO good! It’s a real shame the quality has deteriorated with the new ownership.

Have been to Zavito’s a number of times and could notice a significant change as the wonderful Gavin no longer owns the restaurant anymore. The food was great and had a very lovely waitress who was very accommodating as usual, however I did notice that the atmosphere was different to when Gavin owned it, it just didnt seem as lively anymore, I would hate to see Zavitos change due to change of ownership, however still lovely staff and food

Very good food, venue and atmosphere. Service was fine but could be better. The girls missed a few opportunities to make an impression, and up sell.

Found this restaurant by chance, had visitors to Auckland with us. Viewed menu first, very busy but very accommodating from every member of their well trained staff. Very good service & delightful meal cooked & served artistically on the plate. Now that’s what I call a good restaurant, the flavours lingered for ages. Nice strong tasty flavours. We will visit again, well done Zavito.

Have dined here twice now, and both on a Wednesday night. Lovely to see that your tables were full, but from guessing from my previous time with you I didnt expect anything less. Compliments to your chef…perfect in all courses once again. A great selection in menu for all to enjoy, simple but rich wholesome flavours and more than generous proportions.

Thank you for yet another enjoyable satisfying evening. Cant wait for for my return.

Best meal we have had for a LONG time!! Started with garlic and cheese pizza bread which was tasty, then I had the snapper special with a beautiful cheese sauce, my friend had the steak special which was so tender, both very yummy. We were both full by then, but couldn’t resist sharing the lemon curd crumble-mmmm! Great meal, great staff, best restaurant!

Zavito’s never disappoints. The owner and his staff work well together and the food is always fantastic. I’m sure I’ve been there well over a dozen times but never written a review, so thought it was well-overdue.

It’s a fair wait for the pizza, but the atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and happy, and we’re happy, too. The wait staff are chatty, but not intrusive, and the owner is front of house, busy working along with his staff = great teamwork and good spirits. The woodfired pizzas arrive and are duly dispatched – a seafood variety which is a special of the day, and a Morroccon style with generous slices of tender lamb, black olives and spinach. The crust is deliciously thin and crisp. We’re delighted with the quality of the food, the prices and the excellent service. We’ll be back another day to try something that is perhaps less cheap but I’m sure will be just as cheerful.

We chose Zavito because it was local. We were dining out for a birthday dinner and really wanted a nice place, however the 4 of use were sadly disappointed. The Pizza menu was very disappointing and the other meals that we had were very average in flavour.

Presentation of meals was good however i feel the costs exceeded the overall quality of the meal.
