We decided to stop into Scarlet Kitchen for dinner early Saturday evening (upon a long weekend GETAWAY to Foxton Beach from Wellington). The interior was pleasantly warm and inviting (fireplace made it cozy) and the family (4 kids) were greeted by friendly, well-mannered staff.
I had the Pork Belly, which was delicious and would be a personal recommended choice to friends – Simply fab! My wife had the Lamb cutlets, which looked well presented and the kids had the fish and chips, which they all enjoyed. The portion sizes were generous and satisfied our hungry appetites.
A delightful dining experience and came as such a pleasant surprise since it’s not situated in a large township.
We all enjoyed our dinner so much that we decided to go back there for lunch upon our return trip back into Wellington.
I had the Lambs Fry and Bacon in Mushroom sauce and was simply divine – quite possibly the best I’ve had (certainly in a very long time). My special request for an over-generous serving of mushrooms wasn’t a problem at all and topped off an already outstanding meal.
My wife had the Seafood Chowder, which was also delicious (quite a substantial portion) and the kids had the gourmet Chicken burgers, which were huge but easily demolished and milkshakes went down a real treat.
While I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch choice, I did later clocked the Corn Fritter Stack on a nearby table and it looked amazing! The coffee there was really superb (being from Wellington I’m quite particular about great coffee – this place has it sussed!)
It’s definitely worth the stop-off – good parking, great setting (country style café) delightful service and food was of a high standard. We will be coming back and certainly highly recommended for lunch or dinner.More

The waitress would be the worse we have ever come across. She didnt supply steak knives for the two steak dishes and when she set the cutlery down it was all back to front = knife on left and fork on right. Didnt know anything about the drinks menu and was not very professional in her manner. Wont be going back
