Second visit to Mozaik and food consistently good here as is service. Chef even created a fish dish to suit us which was not on the menu – how good is that ! We will come back and recommend to friends to visit. Cafe was warm on a cold wet night which is good and staff were helpful and welcoming.

1st time here, pretty average at best…flat white was bitter in taste, my muffin and my friends slice so so…service uninspired, not tempted to come back and try again.

We held a big “O” birthday celebration at Mozaik in their upstairs room from 3pm to 6pm and we were able to access the area an hour beforehand to decorate it. The facilities upstairs are perfect for a gathering of 35 – 40++ people, with plenty of seating available should it be needed and a cheery fire to warm the guests.
We chose to have an afternoon tea of savouries, sandwiches, jam and cream scones and an assortment of sweet slices, plus tea and pink lemonade. Not their usual menu but they were very obliging and created an attractive and generous spread. Coffee was available on request. We also ordered champagne, wine etc.
Maria was an outstanding hostess for us, making us feel very welcome on arrival and paying attention to all the details that ensure a happy gathering. She was delightful.
The sound system was barely adequate, and the annexe would be more useable with a dozen coat hooks but other than that our experience at Mozaik was excellent and we would return for a big occasion. Thank you Maria.

This was my 3rd visit to Mozaik, I had already eaten there twice before and had really enjoyed the food previously.

Upon walking in, me and my friend were greeted by the waiter and offered a table to sit down. The first thing I noticed was that it was very chilly inside (no heating at all), this was on a cold and rainy day which I found odd.

When given the menu, I asked the waiter “I cannot find the Mozaik burger anywhere on here” which is what I came there to get. She told me that the menu had changed a couple of weeks ago, so I decided to order the Beef Burger and my friend ordered the steak sandwich.

Our food came out relatively quickly which was a good start, however the food was VERY average “at best”. The notable failures were as follows:
- They used to have delicious crunchy homemade shoestring fries before the new menu – What I received looked like soggy chips that you would get from any low-cost Chinese take-away. They were terrible and not crunchy at all.
- The burger buns had changed from what I considered to be petite and crispy to an over-sized / under-toasted white-bread bun, it reminded me of those budget burger buns you get from count-down in the pack of six and far too doughy.
- My friends steak sandwich came in two enormous pieces of what looked to be pizza bread, the bread was quite tough and was definitely not toasted enough. I found the size of the bread to be ridiculous in comparison to the small pieces steak that were in the sandwich.
- When we asked for tomato sauce, the waiter forgot and we had to ask a second time (No biggie, just not the best service). Additional to this, the sauce was not nice – It was that kind of budget chutney sauce (I prefer the Heinz / Watties tomato sauce)

- Not food related – But I have to mention that the bins in the toilet were overflowing and there were no paper towels for me to dry my hands. When I walked over to the bar to advise them Moreof this issue, the guy at the bar just gave me a confused look and said “I just put some in there?” and I responded “Could you please at least hand me some serviettes or something to dry my hands with”, he gave me some serviettes in a reluctant manner.

I would not go back here and would not recommend the food or service. Perhaps if they made some adjustments to the menu and improved the service I’d possibly give it another chance.

Food was VERY tasty, but with about a 50 minute wait for our food I feel like we waited a lot longer than necessary.

There was a mix up with our drinks as well, which caused a bit of embarrassment when I accidentally drank my friend’s drink because I thought they’d just got my order wrong (I don’t like to cause a fuss by sending things back.)
5-10 minutes later my own drink came out but by that time it was too late.
Drinks were delivered very sporadically, which partly led to the mix up.

If the wait time wasn’t so bad the rating would be better but unfortunately, almost an hour is far too long to wait for simple breakfasts like mushrooms on toast, eggs benedict and the like.

Second year running our company has used Mozaik Cafe in Mt Eden for our Christmas Function. We find this company extremely well organised. Food is excellent, service was awesome, and we loved having the top floor booked for ourselves. Kerwin and his team did a fantastic job looking after us. Personally, I have been a few times – and cannot fault the food or service, prices are very reasonable and love the location.

We have been pretty consistent with going to Mozaik Cafe since moving back to Mt Eden. The service I have to say is hit and miss. What I found was really annoying and has warranted this review was over the Xmas period there was one staff member (a guy) that once the pleasantries were over (how are you and stuff) that he supplied details of his prior night out and how he was hung-over….is that what you really want to hear when you have a couple of teenagers in tow or that you actually want to hear about at any time. Not good.

My husband and I stopped in at Mozaik today for lunch after browsing a few of the menus in Mt Eden.
We decided to give the Mezze Platter a go, the price suggested it was enough for two but we got fries as well just in case. We needn’t have!!
The platter was huge and delicious, we couldn’t finish it! Very generous with delicious treats like haloumi and stuffed pepperdews with plenty of bread.

The lovely ladies working today were warm and attentive.

We will be back for sure :)

Mozaik Mt Eden goes above and beyond service wise (5 stars) and the cooked kitchen food is excellent. The only thing we have found is that some of the cabinet cakes seem dry or not fresh and something we no longer order. A suggestion also is to have more lighting at night too, as it is not a bar. Otherwise highly recommended.

We held our staff Christmas Function here on 13 December 2013 for 62 people. Dionne was fantastic right from the start with plenty of ideas on how we could set the room up to accommodate our large group. The evening went without a flaw thanks to Dionne, Kerwin, William and the team at Mozaik. Nothing was too much trouble. I was very impressed as to how attentive they were on the night. The food was amazing and there was plenty of it. We provided our own outside entertainment which meant the staff having to clear the room to make way for the performance which the staff did without any trouble. The venue is perfect for a private function and also very central. The team at Mozaik are very easy going and professional and I would definitely recommend Mozaik Mount Eden as a great place for a private function. Well done, Dionne and thank you to your team also.

Want to be treated to a flawless night out?
Want to be treated like a princess…and your guests like royalty?
The exhuberant, yet unobtrusive manners and free flowing hospitality complimented the birthday/performance evening we had planned…
…and everyone was raving about the food!
With some cake left over (and those gorgeous kebabs) I even had some wrapped to take home!
I would definitely recommend MOZIAK Mt Eden as a fine place to entertain and celebrate that special birthday!!

Our second time here this time we came for lunch. Ordered the pumpkin soup and it was DIVINE! We probably should have left it at that, as the soup was so delicious it and filling.

I ordered the steak and mushroom and was bit disappointed after experiencing the high of delicious soup. Unfortunately this plate featured a tasteless steak and mushroom sauce that tasted like it had been flavoured by marmite and a tad of brown sugar.

Fortunately for us though, the staff friendly and cheerful. We noticed also no matter who walked in the door the greeting remained happy and welcoming. Top marks for the smiles!

We went to Mozaik for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised with the great food and coffee as well as a really nice range of cakes in the cabinet. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us advice on what to do in the area. We live on the shore so we will be checking out the other Mozaiks over here to see if they measure up!!! I also had a nosey upstairs and saw that they have a beautiful function room and bar – worth remembering

The corn Benedict with smoked salmon was really great, and huge! It was served in a stack of thick sweet corn fritters, with hollandaise sauce dripping over the eggs on top. My only suggestion for my own personal preference, would have been to have lots more rocket leaves. I also enjoyed a very good soy flat white.

I loved the music selection of Trinity Roots, which meant I could just chill out with my Saturday morning brunch, sitting right in front of the lovely gas fire.

Very efficient and little bit shy waitress was good, coming to check if my meal was good… Which it was of course.

I like the decor, and the thickly padded seating is very comfy!
A good choice to come here.

I usually go here for breakfast/brunch or lunch. Service is alway consistantly excellent and food well prepared/presented and never a strain on the wallet. Even when they are busy wait time is never too long. On my last experience I ordered an entree and a main, the waiter kindly asked after my entree if I was ready for my main or would I like to wait. So nice to see people taking time to give good service. I highly recommend Mosiak Mt Eden

Boxing Day 9.00 am a friend and I went to Mozaik in Mt Eden for breakfast. A very pleasant waiter welcomed us showed us to a table and gave us menus. We both ordered scrambled eggs with toast and bacon on the side, my friend ordered on flat white and I ordered English breakfast tea with extra boiling water as I don’t have milk. I requested that my bacon be crispy. We both asked that our drinks be brought later i.e after we had eaten out breakfast. The tea and coffee arrived in the next three minutes – - we let that go but noted that maybe our waiter did not understand what we had said and decided to let the matter rest. My tea was tepid – undrinkable actually and the water was warm? Our scrambled eggs arrived shortly after our drinks. Bacon arrived two minutes later – no crispy bacon – in fact both lots of Bacon were long strips of fat meat with minuscule strips of lean – all undercooked and inedible. We saw that the waiter was very busy taking back unacceptable meals so decided that in keeping with the Christmas spirit we would cut our looses and not come again. This was my third visit to Mt Eden Mozaik and each experience has been very unsatisfactory. Sadly I shall not be returning or recommending the cafe to anyone. Alice

I am a localite and in my past experience with Mozaik was not too good but recently my friend and her family went for lunch and said Mozaik’s standard for food quality and quantity was great so I went with my partner for dinner and that was so true.

We had sizzling snapper which was awesome for fish lovers its worth trying and that’s reasonable price as well and taste too good, will visit again.

I’m wrapped that I chose this venue for my 40th birthday Party and at the end of the nite, I had nothing to fault… it’s not often every element comes together so easily and well delivered.

Dionne the manager was quick to answer any questions and made time to met at the onset, clarifying options throughout. On the day the staff were really obliging and kindly helped a little with a couple of decorations. I found them very attentive and trusted their advice.

The bar and waitering staff were fantastic on the night ensuring the platters were available all the time and in fact the food portions were generous. The quality and variety of items on the mezze platter were delicious, authentic and enjoyed by the guests.

I appreciated having a DJ and the duty manager communicated in a courteous way about noise restrictions at the appropriate time whilst still accommodating us.

The private fuction room was a perfect size for 40 guests and because it is tastefully decorated not much else has to be added. Comfortable and relaxing.

I was thrilled at the success of my party and would highly recommend Mozaik.

This was absolutely the best breakfast we have had in a long time. Top quality food, beautiful presentation and served by a happy smiling attentive waiter. The coffee here is really good too, my daughter actually squeezed in a second cup although I don’t know where she found the room as these were very substantial breakfasts (we chose eggs benedict with salmon, and eggs on oven baked hash brown; the hash brown was excellent). Prices are very reasonable too, on average $18 to $22 and well worth it.

I visited with a friend and 18 month old baby. We took sushi in for the baby and ordered coffees and food for us. We were informed by the waiter that we could not feed the baby the sushi because if he got sick they would be fined. The waiter then stood and watched us and we felt like naughty children. The muffins were dry and the coffee mediocre. In hindsight we should have asked for our money back and left. (Try keeping food from a hungry 18 monther). I will not go there again. I feel sorry for the owners as I have been a resident for 40 years and have seen so many business’ on that corner fail. I really wanted them to do well.

I recently bought a voucher for Mozaik, as I have previously dined at both the Albany & Hamilton Mozaik Cafes on a number of occasions; having always found Mozaiks’ food to be very tasty, accompanied by friendly & efficient service & great value. As I live locally & had recently read about the inspirational story behind Mozaik Cafes’ humble beginnings (in Mt Eden’s monthly magazine, ‘The Garden’), I was now uber keen to check out the latest Mozaik Cafe. My partner & I had decided at very short notice on a late Sunday morning (30 September), to pop in for brunch. I phoned ahead, as per the conditions of the voucher & was advised that we were welcome to venture on in. Shortly after, we arrived & were made to feel welcome & were quickly shown to our table with menus promptly in hand. Water was voluntarily served while we browsed over the menu (& then continually topped up throughout & after our meal, without it being necessary for us to ask). Our orders were readily taken with special requests carefully noted. We were both super hungry, so upon weighing up our options & not quite able to decide on which of 2 dishes to order, we went with the advice of our waiter, David(?), & chose to order 2 of the Mozaik Big Breakfasts. Our meals were served without delay, closely followed by a black pepper shaker thoughtfully brought out & offered to our table without request. Each element on the plate was cooked to perfection, & tasty & delicious. The bacon & sausages were full of flavour & the mixed grain toast was so, so yummy. We both loved the fact that they had presented the baked beans separately (in a small dish on the main plate), with eggs cooked as per our requests. ‘Big’ was exactly what this meal was, & while my partner devoured his entire meal, I didn’t quite manage to do the same, however I enjoyed having plenty of options of wMorehat to eat. While my partner also enjoyed his well-brewed, strong & flavoursome long black, I savoured the sweetness of the refreshingly delicious tropical smoothie (which appeared to be a popular choice amongst fellow diners). We were even asked “Is everything okay for you?” not too long after we began consuming our meal – a rare occurrence in NZ cafes these days, but one, we really appreciated & felt positive & good about. And our table was cleared of its dishes without hesitation, only after we were finished. Having both worked in the hospitality industry ourselves (in NZ & overseas, at management level), my partner & I may sometimes have higher expectations than most, with an eye for details & greater understanding of how important & challenging it can be to get every element of a new establishment just right. Of our overall experience, I think the only time it possibly wasn’t quite ‘top notch’, was when we approached the counter to pay our bill. Perhaps a more conscious effort to showcase a more friendly & ‘warm’ disposition when a customer is paying wouldn’t go amiss (I believe she may have been the barista). She did actually put me off our usual routine reward for great service & food, leaving a handsome tip. Otherwise I believe the team at Mozaik have done a great job of getting their latest café up & running effectively – especially within the competitive depths of Mt Eden Village, hence I award you 5 stars on this occasion. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a relaxed, comfortable & clean, unpretentious atmosphere with great food, coffee, drinks & service, at reasonable prices. Should Mozaik keep this momentum flowing, we plan to return again & again – no doubt becoming regular local fixtures. Great effort & well done!

Just went to Mozaik tonight with my two children, having previously been there on their licensed opening night. Had the seafood risotto which was really good, it was served in a shallow bowl. It was lovely texturally pleasing and tasty. Tonight we ordered the same dish but it was served as a mound of rice which was dry and very undercooked. The seafood was served on skewers, it was ok. The other two meals (the vegetarian pasta and the chicken and charizo risotto) were also mediocre, I didn’t get to finish my chicken and charizo risotto because I ate the children’s leftovers.
We live in the area and are frequently visit the many food spots in Mt Eden, and the service is usually great. Unfortunately we didn’t feel at all welcome at Mozaik. Won’t be going back again.
I preferred the service and eating there when it was the mulberry.

We went into ask about a private Function, we were greeted warmly and shown around upstairs and the lady who met us was wonderful, went through menus and wine list and answered all of our questions, nothing was a problem, we noted that the place was quite busy and the food coming out looked amazing, we ordered 2 items off the menu and they were delivered promptly, presented beautifully and were delicious. Top marks Mosaik, think I will definatley be having my Function there. It is hard to open under the shadow of several previous venues, we think if they keep going as they are they will certainly find there place as a competitor in the village where there are may other options to compete with. Always prefer to try and support local business.

We came to this cafe after it first opened and would have to agree with some of the other posters in regards to their teething problems.
However after visiting there on Fathers Day it was like going to a completely different place – we had really nice food and coffee which they roast themselves and really great service which as a Mt Eden local is a great change.
We cant wait to go back and try their dinner menu!

Well done Mozaik team – looks like you have got a new up and coming star!!

We visited a week after opening and were told we couldn’t get a drink as they hadn’t yet got their licence. Nobody else in there, we found the decor rather bland and cannot believe that somebody has said the previous Mulberry was unwelcoming, we loved it and always felt very welcome. The staff at Mozaik were obviously bored but were fussing about trying to look busy, we left and went elsewhere. We returned a couple of weeks later to give them another try but again nobody in there, it looked cold with no atmosphere, this time we didn’t even go in – went down the road. Not a good start we think, this is a prime spot but what the village really needs is another pub not a cafe – plenty of those and well established too.
Note: Have just been past this cafe / restaurant / bar and at 7.45pm on a Saturday night it is closed! Such a shame makes that corner look like a black hole. They need to have an urgent rethink on their strategy if they are to be successful in this position and I have amended my rating to one star.

Visited mid-afternoon on a wet Sunday i.e. prime business time for an Auckland cafe. We were given a table that needed cleaning when there were other clean tables empty, but this was dealt with, and menus and water delivered promptly. We were then totally ignored for 15 minutes by the 5 wait staff dealing to 7 tables of customers. We finally managed to attract the attention of our waitress and place an order for 2 bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese, and 2 coffees. The menus were left with us, and we were then ignored for about another 25 minutes before an older staff member (possibly the duty manager) asked us whether we would like to order. On being told we had ordered a good time previously, she promised to check on our orders for us. We were then ignored for another 15 minutes before getting up and leaving. A rival down the road was absolutely packed, but we had perfect coffees 3 minutes after ordering (I timed it), and food in less than 6 minutes.

We have visited other cafes in the Mosaik chain and have found them to be pretty good. However, in this case there was a complete failure to supply the food and drink to the customer, the entire purpose of the business. The manager’s intervention was a further complete failure. We noticed that the customers on either side of us were also having problems in getting their orders delivered, or being given the wrong thing. From my view of the counter, the staff member on the espresso machine appeared to constantly make the wrong order, and the waitress attending us appeared to think her main role was to constantly re-sort the stack of clean water glasses, whilst avoiding anything to do with an actual potentially-paying customer.

I won’t be back in a hurry. One star from me, but only because I cannot post whilst awarding none……

I don’t know who owns this cafe, but Mt Eden has plenty of options, and some of the others are outstanding. The oMorewners need to get a grip on the place quickly or their substantial investment will be lost….

We did visit on their first day and there were a few bumps in the friendly service. That aside, the coffee was OK. However the full breakfast and the omelet we had were rather average.

The menu is the same as other Mozaik’s.

Being in an area with lots of good choice, not sure we will be back.
