We had the smoked fish chowder as an entrée, steak and pork belly for the mains and the little one had chicken and chips followed by an ice-cream from the kids menu. The fish chowder was delicious and the steak was cooked to perfection. The other half enjoyed his pork belly as well. Would return again.
I received four tiny chicken bits, the size of chicken nuggets. My partner got two tiny pieces of duck, One was a leg, not sure what the other was.
The waiter was very inexperienced, left us to sit at the table for 10 mins with our menus closed and ready. I would understand of the restaurant was busy, but it was basically empty.
The two “mains”, 2 glasses of wine each, and one piece of pita bread cut into four pieces, cost me $140. Not very happy at all.
Happy to pay $140 for a nice seafood platter! However, I would be expecting something that I would be recommending to people and wanting to go back to get another one! We looked at the people next to us who had the platter come out just before we ordered ours and decided that was what we wanted.
We saw a crayfish or bug or some sort of shell fish on theirs that wasn’t on the menu but we thought wow that is cool! We also saw they had lovely big scallops described as seered. When we got ours the first thing we noticed that there was no crayfish. Since that wasn’t on the menu we didn’t mind too much. The musscles had shrunk down to nothing and the prawns tasted like rubber. The salad was undressed and the calamari although not overcooked had no seasoning..it was close to the end of the meal that we realised that we did not get ANY scallops at all on our dish. If they had let us know that they were out or whatever that would have been okay but that was terrible customer service for a ‘fine dining’ restaurant. I have been kicking myself for spending so much money on a seafood platter that my 10 year old nephew could have done a better job of! The one star is for the outlook as that is the only part of the lunch I enjoyed!
I will not be back nor will I recommend to anybody.

This review is based on the second visit in August 2013.
We had a voucher for an entree, main and dessert advertised for a great value by an award winning chef.
We found the service to be very poor, having to order my main 3 times only to have the wrong dish brought to me. The time to take orders and to deliver the food took forever. I noticed a couple on the table next to us also waiting over 1 hour for their meal.
Pumpkin soup – 5/10
Squid rings – 3 / 10 (rubbery and not the freshest smell)
Steak – 1/10 very hard to cut with lots of gristle, a cheap cut, possibly frozen which only after eating half I felt ill.
Chicken – 1 / 10 inedible, pale grey and cold. My wife stopped after 3 bites.
Desserts (only one of the advertised options available)
Lemon cheesecake – 7 / 10 (the highlight but by this time I was ready to leave without it).
It’s very unfortunate this place is not better as the location is fantastic. Needless to say i complained to our waiters although I’m sure on death ears. The coupon was advertised for a meal of a certain quality and that was what I expected.
I paid for the bottled water, used my coupon and left feeling very disappointed.
My mistake was giving this place a second chance and on what was supposed to be a special day.

The Service was slow, Tiramsu tasteless , calamari chewy ( has never been chewy before) Oysters also tasteless.
We have been to The Beach House numerous times but wont be going back for the prices charged we cold have eaten in the best Auckland Restaurants and this by no means it.

6 Jan 14 – Went again last night… $15 main and one full price meal…both meals were stunning! Service fantastic…..
Will not visit this place again.
Nice location but was disappointed in general. Lovely soup but desert brownie was dry. More effort required.
It was a pleasant experience and a nice venue.
Utterly deceiving in the negative sense! Fantastic location, warm atmosphere with beautiful decor and food that is aesthetically appealing and makes you “want to have what they’re having” as dishes are passing by. Unfortunately, one bite into the seafood platter and all the hopes, excitement and expectations go down the drain (so could the food!).
The oysters were fresh, the raw fish in coconut milk was good, but everything else on the seafood platter was overcooked! The mussels shrunk to nothing, the salmon was dry, the prawns were rubbery… everything on the dish looked reheated. Given that I had went to The French Cafe the night before had paid $140 pp for the 8-course tasting platter, I would happily pay that again than pay $130 for two for something that was no where even half the quality or service for that matter!
The waiter had no etiquette what-so-ever by leaning over us from behind to take the plates without warning, and when we gave feedback about our meal, he just took the plates away with a look of his tail between his legs and came back with the menus and asked if we’re ready for dessert!
I would have let this slide if the waiter had good etiquette and addressed our concern by taking it to the chef and returning with an apology. But for $130 excluding two entrees and alcohol, I was not about to pay my hard earned cash for a dessert that would leave me further disappointed.
The food is certainly waaayyy over-priced compared to the service and quality that you expect to receive at similar priced restaurants. Affordability is not the issue. It is paying for what something is worth. This was certainly not worth its while.
The three of us ordered the seafood platter for two ($130) and the twice cooked duck. The platter was amazing and almost too overwhelming. What stood out to me the most was the raw snapper in coconut.
For me it was a one time dining experience, not a restaurant I’d consider going to often, mostly due to being further than how far I’d usually travel.
I have booked a larger group for another date but I will be ringing up on the day to ensure there are no staffing issues on the night, and if there is, i will be ordering over the phone before we get there so our meals are ready on time.
Total wedding for two 70 year olds (incurable romantics), party of 27.
First, very sincere thank you to all the young staff. (what a change to find pleasant, courteous, efficient teenagers, restores ones faith in the future)
We only had finger food but the chefs did us proud, totally adequate for the occasion (we even got to take some home in doggy bags because we could not get thru all the food)
Why did we choose “The Beachhouse” on the Parade?

Arrived at 7pm, only one person ordered an entree.
Had to chase our Mains and they finally started arriving at 9.15 (although not all at the same time).
Managers dismissive excuse was “we’re short in the kitchen” as though we just had to lump it.
Fully booked on a Saturday night and no backup chef = poor.
2 of us ordered Pork Belly – very disappointing, no crackling just floppy skin.
No real apology for poor experience.
When we complained we were told there is nothing they can do, you will have to write to the owner.
Over-priced, poor service, arrogant attitude to customers, only interested in getting your money rather than giving you a memorable experience.
Avoid and go elsewhere !!
We were in a large group and had been there a few times before and we usually come away with the same thoughts that is was overpriced for what you were given.
Three people at the table ordered affogato, only to find two out of the three tipped over due the the way they served them. One of the diners managed to wear most of it – not sure it they were charged but due to the stupidity of the less than adequate balancing act I for one would not pay for the replacement.
We were squashed in and shoulder to shoulder with the diner seated next to you, made it almost impossible to eat. They advertise that they are BYO but displayed a sign on the front door which cancelled this out which is unfortunate and adds to their prices.
Reluctant to go there again even they they have the perfect setting for the restaurant.
Entrees and mains were bland, unimaginative and lacking in flavor.
The waitress interrupted excessively and was extremely pushy with drinks, constantly suggesting more wine.
So disappointing when there are so many decent restaurants around. What’s with the tacky potato chips they put on all the plates and badly cooked vege side, drowned in butter. Inedible.
The waitress tried to clear my plate while I still had a fork in my hand.
Complete rip off.

It is such a shame that this restaurant has one of the best views in Auckland, has nicely presented food but doesn’t follow through on the service. I’ve eaten here many times, and cannot biteMore my tongue any longer as it is getting worse!
Very over priced for what you get, we were expecting gourmet for the price we paid.
The fish fillets for breakfast were over cooked and very old tasting possibly even reheated, they were trialling a new poached egg system they came out very under cooked, asked the waitress to take them back however she swayed me to keep them and try there new system which were not to my liking so I didn’t eat them. My husband had the big breakfast again the eggs were under done, no butter for his toast. Coffee was very weak, further coffee’s with double shots they were more like the strength of a normal coffee.
The waitress was too in your face and didn’t listen. I would never go back to The Beach House there is a lot nicer places for the price you pay in the surrounding areas.
Very busy restaurant, lovely summer evening, seemed promising from NZ Herald review, good menu. However, ordered special of breaded snapper – Rubbery, tasteless, re-heated garbage! Expensive, overrated and not worth spending your hard earned money here. Waited for ages on main course arriving after finishing starters. Seem to be a major meltdown happening in kitchen. Avoid!
Pre drinks 6.30 dinner approx 7.30 dinner actually served 10.20pm……our senior staff members went home before food was actually served. Two other large tables at restaurant as well this evening….Our waiter was brilliant. I’m sure the kitchen staff was as well. Just not for huge numbers. Food when it did arrive finally was good. Possibly would have been great had it arrived at 9pm. Owners shouldn’t book the numbers when clearly they are not set up to handle such numbers. Based on this evenings experience wouldn’t recommend at all.
An enjoyable night for a special occasion.
The atmosphere was low key with ambient music playing we sat in a section to one side which is curtain off with black netting providing a semi-private area.
We were greeted and seated and shortly after given the specials , all night our waitress was attentive to our needs.
My Half a duck marinated in orange & five spice confit and served with bok choy; mandarin puree, goat cheese mash and port wine jus. and my wife’s Herb crusted rack of lamb with char-grilled vegetable stack on potato rosti, smoked bacon jus and beau blanc sauce, was delivered to the table fifteen minutes after the entree plates were cleared. Presentation of both meals was top quality.
Staff were polite attentive and capable, extremely good night.
The also know how to cook a blue steak – well done, we will be back.
I booked it for Valentines day. After I arrived they announced to us that our meal was a set menu and it would cost $180! Usually we would have paid what.. $35 for a steak, some bread and dips, a dessert. There is no way we would need to spend that much. They insisted that everyone had been phoned and told of this set up but we hadn’t. So we walked out and went to Basalt instead which was fabulous.
